New Zealand’s most exciting up and coming bands just happens to be oozing Rotorua lads. Strangely Arousing are a five piece reggae/ska band that incorporate an open minded approach to different styles into their music. Strangely has won a swag of accolades and prizes since forming at secondary school in Rotorua and last year the band took the plunge and self-funded their own debut album. Excitingly the album climbed to #3 on the New Zealand Music Charts and #9 on the international charts. With guitar and unique lead vocals from Lukas Wharekura, punchy bass from Shaun Loper and dynamic drums of Oliver Prendergast, Strangely Arousing is boosted with the bright and vibrant sound of Forrest Thorp’s trumpet and Liam Rolfe on trombone. They have an extensive array of original songs ranging from one of their first hits Kupenga to newer singles What Do and tongue and cheek song Groove Shooter featuring Naz from The Bachelor in the musical video. At Lakeside 2018 – Whenua #itsabouthome, Strangely Arousing is ready to show their home audience what they are made of.
